Please note that the REU program will not resume until Summer 2023 – the application process is closed until late 2022.

Required Materials

To apply for the REU, please follow the link to the form below. You will need the following materials to complete the application:

  1. Unofficial transcripts for institutions attended over the past two years (pdf)
  2. Name, phone, and email of two references (reference letters not required at this time)
  3. Short essay (typed or pasted directly into the form)

It is recommended that you prepare your essay response and prioritize your project choices before you begin the application. You will have 45 minutes to complete the form – there isn’t an option to save it and return later.

Review the REU projects on the project page (beginning December 2022).

The essay question is “Tell us about yourself and your goals for the future. How have you worked towards these goals so far, and what challenges have you faced on your path? If appropriate, mention how your project choices relate to your goals.  (300-500 words)”

Selection Criteria

Applicants will be selected based on a number of criteria, including: academic record, essay response, alignment with desired projects, and feedback from references. We are committed to providing equal opportunity for students from a diverse set of backgrounds and educational experiences. Students enrolled in 2-year institutions and from populations traditionally underrepresented in the sciences are encouraged to apply.
