Asheville

The University of North Carolina Asheville (UNCA) is located in western North Carolina in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The UNCA campus includes natural wilderness and hiking trails, city overlooks, an observatory, a vegan and gluten-free restaurant, a coffee shop and a tea house/greenhouse, a fantastic dining hall, a fully equipped gym with a swimming pool and indoor and outdoor tracks, and is walking distance to a thriving downtown. Within a 15 minute walk from your summer dorm, you can lay out a towel and bask by our local Reed Creek at the Botanical Gardens, explore miles of hiking and biking trails, get gourmet ice-cream (including vegan and gluten-free options) at The Hop, enjoy fantastic southern BBQ at Luella’s, or grab a breakfast burrito at Urban Burrito or sushi at Zen Sushi. And that’s just within the first fifteen minutes!

Follow the scenic greenway trail along Reed Creek for a stroll into downtown Asheville, a thriving community with impressive music and culinary scenes, museums, farmers markets, theaters, and spacious outdoor seating. Even during COVID, there is plentiful fine dining and outdoor enjoyment: attend a socially-distanced concert after picking-up authentic ramen at Itto Ramen & Japanese Tapas, or grab vegan tacos from one of our many food trucks and have a picnic in Pack Square Park. Want a little more adventure? Rent an inner tube and float down the French Broad River with your friends, or kayak on nearby Beaver Lake. Whether your a city person or an outdoor enthusiast, UNCA offers a wonderful home-away-form home.
